Joy Mental Fitness at the 2025 BCAA Mid-Autumn Festival: Promoting Mental Health Awareness in the Chinese Community

Joy Mental Fitness brings mental health awareness

On September 27, 2025, Joy Mental Fitness proudly sponsored the Bernards Chinese American Association (BCAA) Mid-Autumn Festival at The Ross Farm in Basking Ridge, NJ. The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important cultural celebrations for Chinese families, symbolizing reunion, togetherness, and reflection. This year, Joy Mental Fitness partnered with BCAA not only to celebrate the traditions of the holiday but also to continue our mission of increasing mental health awareness in the Chinese community. Our Ongoing Mission: Increasing Mental Health Awareness

Since its founding, Joy Mental Fitness has been dedicated to breaking barriers around mental health and making support accessible and culturally sensitive for all. We know that conversations about mental health in the Chinese community can sometimes be met with silence, misunderstanding, or stigma. Our mission has always been to create safe spaces where individuals and families can talk about their challenges openly and receive support that respects their cultural values.

By sponsoring the BCAA Mid-Autumn Festival, we wanted to bring mental health resources into a community space where families already feel welcome. Festivals like these are not only about food, music, and fun—they are also opportunities to connect, learn, and share. When conversations about well-being are included in cultural celebrations, they become more approachable and less intimidating.

Why Cultural Sensitivity Matters in Mental Health Care

Joy Mental Fitness takes pride in offering culturally sensitive mental health services. For many in the Chinese community, traditional values emphasize endurance, academic achievement, and family reputation. While these values can be strengths, they can also make it harder to talk about stress, anxiety, depression, or parenting struggles. Some families may feel that seeking therapy is a sign of weakness or may worry that others will judge them.

That is why cultural sensitivity is at the heart of our approach. Our diverse team of therapists understands these dynamics and is trained to support clients in ways that honor their cultural identity. Whether it is helping parents navigate academic pressures, supporting children who feel caught between two cultures, or assisting families coping with mental health challenges like anxiety or depression, we provide care that is respectful and relatable.

Addressing Stigma in the Chinese Community

Mental health stigma remains a real challenge in many communities, and the Chinese community is no exception. Common attitudes such as “keep it in the family” or “don’t talk about problems” often prevent individuals from seeking help. As a result, children and adults alike may suffer in silence. This stigma can delay early intervention and contribute to long-term challenges.

By being visible at community events like the BCAA Mid-Autumn Festival, Joy Mental Fitness works to change that narrative. When people see mental health professionals actively participating in cultural events, it sends a message: seeking support is normal, valuable, and something to be proud of. It helps reduce stigma and encourages more families to reach out when they need help.

Community Support and Gratitude

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Qiuyue Chen and her family, local community members who generously volunteered their time to help Joy Mental Fitness set up for the Mid-Autumn Festival. Their support not only made our participation possible but also showed the importance of community involvement in raising awareness about mental health. Volunteers like the Chen family embody the spirit of service and the belief that mental wellness is a shared responsibility.

Looking Ahead

The 2025 BCAA Mid-Autumn Festival was a wonderful reminder of why community partnerships matter. Joy Mental Fitness will continue to advocate for mental health awareness, provide culturally sensitive services, and work with local organizations to reach families where they are. Our mission is to ensure that every individual, regardless of background, has access to the support they deserve.

We look forward to continuing this journey with the Chinese community and beyond. Together, we can reduce stigma, strengthen families, and build a healthier, more supportive future.
