When do I need therapy?
Approximately 1 in 5 American adults will experience a diagnosable mental health disorder in a given year. Signs of mental health disorders include confused thinking, prolonged sadness or irritability, excessive worries, social withdrawal, suicidal thoughts, substance abuse and more. If you think you are experiencing any of above symptoms, you should consider seeing a therapist.

On the other hand, Joy Mental Fitness promotes mental health awareness and encourages people to see a therapist at least a couple times a year just to keep their mental health in check. Mental health issues are easier to address in the earlier stage when issues hasn’t escalated.
How do I find a therapist that meets my needs?
At Joy Mental Fitness, we will match a therapist for you based on your clinical needs, cultural background, insurance, language, and therapist’s availability. We have a diverse team of well-trained clinicians.

We understand that client-therapist fit is essential to deliver effective treatment.
Can I change my therapist?
Yes, we can arrange another therapist for you at any time. However, we highly recommend you to discuss the concerns with your therapist prior to making the change. Your therapist heavily relies on your feedbacks to individualize the therapy for your needs. Your therapist needs to know what works for you, what does not work, what you like to discuss and what you are not ready to discuss.
How often and how long do I need to see my therapist?
There is no solid answer for this question. It is up to your needs which will be evaluated routinely by your therapist. Typically we recommend you starting the therapy once a week. Based on how serious the issues are and how you are achieving the therapeutic goals, your therapist may recommend you to continue the weekly therapy, increase frequency to twice a week, or reduce the frequency to once per two weeks. If you keep making progress, therapy can be further reduced to once a month until your therapist and you decide to terminate the service.
How do I pay for the service?
You pay the service through our client portal. Before the first session, we will give you access to the client portal where you will be asked to update your payment information. You can use debit card, credit card, HSA, FSA to pay for the service.

Our client portal is a HIPPA compliant platform, which means we do not see your card information. We process the payment at each session. Once you update the card information, the platform will keep the information in a safe place and you do not need to type the card information for future sessions.
How much do I pay for each session?
If you use your insurance to cover the service, your payment amount is based on your insurance plan.

If you choose self-pay, please contact us directly to get more details.
Does my insurance cover the service?
We are in network with United Healthcare (UHC | UBH), Oscar Health, Oxford, Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross and Blue Shield (including Horizon, Anthem, etc). If you have other insurance plans with out-of-network benefits, we can provide you a superbill for reimbursement.
Can my therapist fill out family/medical leave form for me?
Our therapists can fill out medical leave forms. However, please allow at least 3 sessions for your therapist to learn more about you to clinically decide if it is appropriate to fill out the medical leave forms.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Your therapist will usually schedule the next appointment with you at the end of each session. You can also email or call your therapist directly to make an appointment. You can also log in to the client portal to see your therapist’s availability and book an appointment there.

How does telehealth therapy work?
Telehealth therapy refers to therapy that is delivered via a secure video connection. Other than you meet the therapist “virtually” on a computer or phone screen, Telehealth therapy is very identical to face to face (or in-person) therapy.

Our system will send you a reminder with a link for the meeting. You just need to click on the link to meet your therapist. Please visit our Teletherapy page for details.
How do I prepare for the first appointment?
Prior to our first appointment, we will send you a link to our confidential client portal where you will find information about our practice, confidentiality in therapy and forms where you can provide some information about yourself.

The initial appointment/evaluation will focus on your history. It is often helpful to think about any significant life events or recent changes that are contributing to the challenges which led you to seek treatment. You are welcome to ask any questions you may have and/or share any concerns about starting therapy.

What do I do if I need to reschedule/ cancel my appointment?

Joy Mental Fitness maintains a 24-hour cancellation policy. The time scheduled for your appointment is assigned to you and you alone. If you need to cancel or reschedule a session, we ask that you provide us with 24 hours’ notice. If you miss a session without canceling, or cancel with less than 24 hours’ notice, you will be charged for a fee unless we both agree that you were unable to attend due to circumstances beyond your control.

If it is possible, we will try to find another time to reschedule the appointment. In addition, you are responsible for coming to your session on time. If you are late, your appointment will still need to end on time.

Do you offer free consultation?

We can provide a free phone consultation up to 15 minutes.
As a parent, do I have the right to know the details of my children’s therapy?

Legally yes. However, our recommendation depends on the age of the child. For younger children, we tend to keep things transparent to the parents. For older children such as teenagers, we encourage parents not to inquire the specific details in the private therapy sessions.

Can you prescribe medication?
No, we cannot. We are therapists providing therapies associated with diagnosis and treatment. If you are looking for medication, we can refer you to a psychiatrist.
How do I start the therapy process with Joy Mental Fitness?
Joy Mental Fitness dedicates to make the service process easy for our clients. Clients can reach out either by requesting an appointment online directly or emailing our team at contact@joymental.com. Our administrative staff will reach out within 24 hours (usually much sooner).

Our administrative staff will first verify insurance benefits for our clients to avoid surprise bills. After the insurance benefits get verified, assigned providers will be connected with the clients to schedule the first appointments.
