Tameka (she/her) is a mental health fellow at Joy.

Tameka is a mental health fellow of Joy Mental Fitness, which has locations in Jersey City, New Jersey, and Boston, Massachusetts. Tameka also provides telehealth services to patients throughout New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Connecticut, and New York.

Experience & Specialties

Over the past 15 years, Tameka has been an avid participant in boxing. This has been a significant source of balance and stability in her life, providing her with an outlet for physical exertion and stress relief. The sport has taught her the value of physical wellness and its role in promoting overall self-improvement and self-care.

Boxing requires discipline, focus, and determination, contributing to her personal growth and development. It has also taught her the importance of setting goals, pushing herself beyond her limits, and persevering through challenges. It has been an integral part of her life, and its benefits extend beyond physical fitness.

As a therapist, Tameka aims to create a safe and empathetic environment where you can explore your thoughts and behaviors. She believes you are the expert of your own experience. She will work collaboratively with you to identify your goals and create a plan that aligns with your values and preferences using a personalized approach blending Psychodynamic and Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) theories, prioritizing empathy and collaboration to empower you as the expert on your own experiences, to help you feel seen and heard as a whole person.

Tameka is a skilled individual who possesses a deep understanding of cultural diversity. She specializes in providing assistance and guidance to individuals who are navigating through various challenges such as depression, anxiety, life changes, and transitions.

Tameka’s passion is to help people, and she is dedicated to creating a safe and supportive environment for everyone. She uses her expertise to provide personalized care and support to each person she works with, ensuring they receive the help they need to overcome their challenges and thrive. Tameka’s ultimate goal is to support you on your journey towards a more fulfilling life.

Education & Training

Tameka holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Long Island University and a Master of Arts in Education from Adelphi University. She is currently completing a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Walden University.
